You already have the answer to the questions you are asking. Sometimes, well, most of the time, there are just too many questions at once, which is when life beings to feel overwhelming. Then on top of having questions, expectations are set on us from friends, family, work, and even teachers/mentors. Telling us who we should be and how we should show up in the world.

When these expectations are not met, we can begin to build self-affirming statements of self-doubt and identities that don't equal who we indeed are—bringing feelings of being unbalanced and disconnected from our human experience. Therapy can support you in fostering awareness and self-reflection; so you can begin to bring to light truths that will guide you to your true life path and purpose.

I recognize this is a big step, but no matter the path your choose, remember…

Narrative Therapy

Narrative therapy is a collaborative and empowering approach to counseling that views individuals as the authors of their own lives. Central to this theory is the idea that people construct meaning through the stories they tell about themselves and their experiences. Therapists employing narrative techniques work with clients to deconstruct unhelpful or oppressive narratives and co-create new, more empowering stories.

Key Concepts of Narrative Therapy:

  1. Externalization: This technique helps clients separate themselves from their problems by viewing them as external entities. By externalizing the issue, clients can explore its effects on their lives more objectively and begin to challenge its influence.

  2. Deconstruction of Dominant Narratives: Narrative therapy challenges dominant cultural narratives and societal norms that may contribute to clients' distress. Therapists help clients identify and question these dominant narratives, encouraging the exploration of alternative perspectives.

  3. Re-authoring: Through re-authoring, clients can rewrite their life stories in ways that align with their values, strengths, and aspirations. This process involves identifying and amplifying instances of resilience, agency, and preferred identities.

  4. Unique Outcomes: Narrative therapy focuses on identifying exceptions to the problem-saturated narratives in clients' lives. By highlighting moments of success, growth, and resourcefulness, therapists help clients recognize their strengths and possibilities for change.

Chakra/Yogic Philosophy

Chakras are energy centers located along the spine, each corresponding to specific physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of human experience. In yogic philosophy, it is believed that when these energy centers are balanced and aligned, individuals experience a sense of well-being, vitality, and harmony. However, imbalances or blockages in the chakras can lead to physical discomfort, emotional turmoil, and spiritual disconnection.

Seven Main Chakras:

  1. Root Chakra (Muladhara): Located at the base of the spine, the root chakra is associated with feelings of stability, security, and grounding.

  2. Sacral Chakra (Swadhisthana): Positioned in the lower abdomen, the sacral chakra governs emotions, creativity, and sensuality.

  3. Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura): Located in the upper abdomen, the solar plexus chakra is associated with personal power, confidence, and self-esteem.

  4. Heart Chakra (Anahata): Positioned at the center of the chest, the heart chakra governs love, compassion, and connection with others.

  5. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha): Located in the throat area, the throat chakra is associated with communication, self-expression, and authenticity.

  6. Third Eye Chakra (Ajna): Positioned between the eyebrows, the third eye chakra governs intuition, insight, and spiritual awareness.

  7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara): Located at the top of the head, the crown chakra represents unity consciousness, spiritual connection, and higher states of awareness.

Humanistic Perspective:

Humanistic psychology emphasizes the inherent worth and potential of every individual, focusing on personal growth, self-actualization, and the pursuit of authenticity. Therapists from a humanistic perspective prioritize creating a supportive and non-judgmental therapeutic environment where clients feel understood, accepted, and empowered to explore their experiences and values.

Key Principles of Humanistic Therapy:

  1. Person-Centered Approach: Humanistic therapists adopt a person-centered approach, viewing clients as the experts of their own lives. Therapeutic goals revolve around facilitating self-discovery, self-awareness, and self-acceptance.

  2. Unconditional Positive Regard: Therapists offer unconditional positive regard, accepting clients without judgment or evaluation. This creates a safe space for clients to express themselves openly and honestly, fostering trust and rapport in the therapeutic relationship.

  3. Self-Exploration and Growth: Humanistic therapy encourages clients to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences with curiosity and openness. Through self-exploration, clients can gain insight into their values, aspirations, and potential for growth.

  4. Holistic Perspective: Humanistic therapists consider the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—in their approach to therapy. They recognize the interconnectedness of physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being, addressing clients' needs on multiple levels.
